Import objects weird behavior

Ok, this has been bugging me for a while and I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or is it just the game. I'm not exactly good when it comes to blender so I would like to hear a more educated explanation.

So here we have a simple strip pole .obj in the plank character. All is good.

But it does look quite blocky since I used a minimal amount of faces in the object. So let's change the shading to smooth in blender.

Save the .obj and open FurryVNE for a surprise.

The pole is now EXTRA THICC and I have no idea why. I know adding more Faces to a .obj will reduce this but will not get rid of this. Sometimes I tried auto smooth from object data in blender but the end result is .obj with some edges open like a tear.
Why is it doing that? Why some objects smooth-shaded look ok while others inflate like a balloon? Why does auto smooth tear up edges? Why does everything look good in blender but the nightmare begins in FurryVNE. Am I using the wrong version of blender and should I finally update? Is the week-old milk in my fridge still ok?

    It's phong tessellation causing this.

There will be a checkbox to disallow tessellation in parts next release.
  • That is funny tho
  • Oh, so that's the thing! Good to know that is in the game and not in the blender or in a .obj file itself. When you said that you can disallow tessellation, do you mean individual parts or all parts together?

You can disable it on a per part basis.
